Shona has created a really lovely design for Mikey and Addie. It's quite a different set to work on as it is a storytelling piece. Now we're trying to work out what each object is on top of the plinths and how they should change during the show. Very happy with the overall look though.
Mikey and Addie has just finished it's second week of rehearsals. It's very exciting and also quite daunting to work on. It is being produced by Macrobert and I am working with a brilliant team as you can see below:
Mikey - Michael Dylan Addie - Sally Reid Writer - Rob Evans Designer - Shona Reppe Lighting Designer - Fred Pommerehn Composer - Danny Krass Production Manager - Andrew Paul Stage Manager - Sian Mitchell MacGregor White won 3 awards at the CATS on sunday. Shona and Craig won Best Design and the show won Best Technical Production and also Best Show for Children and Young People. What a great result.
BEST DESIGN: Shona Reppe (set and costumes) and Craig Fleming (lighting), White, Catherine Wheels Theatre Company "GREAT theatre design does not just illuminate its text, it adds to it. Shona Reppe's design and costumes for Catherine Wheel's White went one step further again. She created a white world of such invention that it could have existed on its own. But then you would have missed each intricate new detail as the show developed, the discoveries in each birdbox, the hilarity of using a toilet pedestal mat as an apron. Lighting white can be hell and Craig Fleming's simple design ensured that the lighting waxed and waned with the passing of the day, Reppe's birdhouses lit up from the inside and a mirror-ball moon threw slivers of reflected light across the scene." Thom Dibdin (Edinburgh Evening News/The Stage) BEST TECHNICAL PRESENTATION, sponsored by Northern Light: White, Catherine Wheels Theatre Company "WHITE'S technical artistry was not only a marvel to watch but was integral to the overall success of the production. From its sleight-of-hand tricks to its moving conclusion of seamlessly turning a white set into a massive celebration of colour, White’s technical execution not only proved that small effects can have a large impact but that excellence in technical presentation is as important to the success of a production as any other component." Michael Cox (onstagescotland.co.uk BEST PRODUCTION FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE: White, Catherine Wheels Theatre Company "GOOD theatre is good theatre – whatever age group it’s intended for. White captivated pre-school tots with its ravishing transformation of an all-white world into a rainbow landscape. And if adults read the arrival of colour as a profound reflection on social values – well they too were totally smitten by the magical beauty of this show. How did they do it? It still remains a mystery – but it’s a winner." Mary Brennan (The Herald) Photos by Douglas McBride Potato Needs a Bath has had another lovely review during it's run at the New Victory Theater

"This truly beautiful show crafts its ideas with a light, but sophisticated touch..." **** http://www.heraldscotland.com/arts-ents/stage-visual-arts/bestest-bits-that-even-the-grown-ups-will-love-1.1047390 The set is up and it looks beautiful - Shona, Craig and Susie have done a great job. We have a nursery coming tomorrow to preview the show which will be utterly terrifying but really useful.
Gill and Shona with hat envy... ...Danny trying to impress us with his incredibly small speakers... ...while Shona wrestles with one of the many birdboxes.
Shona has created a really lovely design for White. At the moment we're trying to work out what each house should look like and what it should do. Very happy with the teepee though and our cuckoo clock inspired costumes.
